![]() ![]() McIntyre: Who is somebody or who are some artists that you are loving right?Įlliott: Oh, goodness, I like Rapsody, I like, I don't even know if I'm pronouncing her name right, Leikeli47. And so hopefully that changes, because they're out there. I think women are most definitely starting to be vocal and do we let a lot of that stuff pass, but people have taken notice to it. ![]() And I could be wrong, because I can't safely say there hasn't been, I just can't remember. I don't even know if there actually has ever been a time there was a female producer in a category at awards. They're out there, we just have to make it a conversation, and women should be in those categories with the male producers. You know, we don't talk about how many records that Alicia Keys has produced. It's just for whatever reason, it is not talked about like the guys. I mean, if people knew how many records I've done for other artists they would be surprised. There are a lot of female producers out there. What do you think it will take for more women to rise the ranks as producers and especially in hip-hop?Įlliott: What will it take to get the attention of. McIntyre: I've always respected you as an artist and a musician, but also as a producer. So I don't have to do too much explaining to them. We come from, your records were great, and they could sit out for six months, and you come back and do another joint. It wasn't like I just went missing, or I featured on someone’s record.īut I think, too, when you give them something great visually, and you give them a good record, then there isn’t a push to constantly just drop, drop, drop, drop, drop. For one, the greatest thing in my career, if I wasn't doing a Missy album, I was writing and producing for other artists, so they always got a chance to see something, somewhere. McIntyre: How do you communicate to those fans that there's been an album delay, or health issues, or whatever it is?Įlliott: Well the greatest thing in having an explanation in my fans is.I don't always have to have one. What's going on with you musically these days?Įlliott: I'm recording, and I hate to say working an album, because then it goes, “Well when is it dropping?” And then y'all will have my fans out there ready to stone me if it don't drop the day that I say it will, so, I just like to say that I'm working on my music for sure. McIntyre: The ad features a song that you made 15 years ago and it still feels fresh and great today. And like I said, in this situation, besides the drink being fantastic, the players and the whole creative idea of it, I just felt this has got to be at least, if not the number one commercial, it’s got to be the top three. But most definitely I have to like whatever it is that I'm promoting. ![]() McIntyre: What does it take for you to partner with a brand?Įlliott: What does it take? I mean, first of all, I have to like it. I'm hearing my voice and seeing him do that, I'm like, “Wow! That's amazing!” I would not have been able to predict 15 years ago that this would be happening in 2018.
